Do you know someone who recently had a miscarriage? As a woman who endured three miscarriages before the birth of my first child, I can relate to the broken heart that comes with the pain of losing your unborn child.
During each difficult time of miscarriage, I felt the presence of the Holy Spirit near to my heart but I still needed prayer after my first miscarriage and the two after that. There are so many difficult things that go through your head and your heart during this time of loss.
Telling Family Members And Friends
One of the hardest parts of miscarriage for me was telling my family members and friends about our loss. The pain of miscarriage does not end with learning you lost your baby. In some ways, that’s where it starts because then you have to share the miscarriage news with all of your friends and family. The family members will need time to heal as well, especially grandparents.
The exciting news of new life is such a wonderful thing then for it to be gone is devastating. Having the right words to say in this tough time can be difficult. I feel like the best thing you can do for someone experiencing a miscarriage is to pray for them. Of course, be there for them if they want company and bring them a meal if the couple is open to that. Or if the Mom needs some time to process, you could always just send a text that says, “praying for you.”
Getting Through This Devastating Time
Getting through the painful time after the loss of a pregnancy is no joke. Not only have you just lost your child, but you also have the hormones of postpartum running through your body. This complicates things even further because of the emotional rollercoaster and the physical pain. Praying a simple prayer of comfort for your loved one is one of the kindest and most compassionate things you can do during this time of loss.
After my second miscarriage, I knew deep in my heart that the pain of losing a child would never get easier. On one hand, my heart was devastated but on the other, I knew Jesus was near. I want to encourage you to pray for your loved one to feel Jesus near during the grieving process.
The Loving Arms Of Jesus
The best cure for surviving the pain of a miscarriage is to run into the loving arms of Jesus and let Him hold you. Of course, this simple act seems very difficult when our hearts are reeling from the devastating loss of a baby. The prayer about entering the secret place (Prayer #2) below addresses this and is a gateway to help your loved one encounter Jesus.
What Do I Pray For My Friend Who Had A Miscarriage?
Even though miscarriage is a great loss we can have hope because of the comfort prayer provides. Based on my own experience, I have put together these five heartfelt prayers to pray over anyone who has recently lost their sweet baby through miscarriage.
5 Comforting Miscarriage Prayers
My prayer is that you would feel comfort as you prayer these prayers for your loved one who has experienced miscarriage.
Prayer #1 – Comforting Prayer For Mom
You are the God of all comfort (2 Corinthians 1:3-5) and I ask You to show yourself strong in (name)’s life as she navigates the emotional pain and the healing process of miscarriage. I lift up (name) to you and I ask You to comfort her as she deals with the broken heart of losing a baby. Heal her womb, O Lord, and fill her heart with hope. I ask You to calm her mind and give her rest. Place people in her path that will encourage her and lead her to Your truth. I ask You to give her Your perspective on her situation so that she can see the whole picture. I ask You to heal her body, soul, and spirit.
I pray this in Jesus’ name. Amen
Prayer #2 – Entering The Secret Place With Jesus
Dear Heavenly Father,
I pray that (name) will encounter You in a new way during this time of loss. I pray in the name of Jesus that (name) would enter the secret place of Psalm 91. I decree and declare that God will rescue her from every hidden trap of the enemy, and He will protect her from false accusation and any deadly curse. I pray that (name) would feel His massive arms wrapped around her, protecting her. Lord, show her how to run under the covering of Your majesty and hide in the secret place with You. Let her know deep in her heart that Your arms of faithfulness are a shield keeping her from harm (Psalm 91:3-4).
Prayer #3 – Getting Through The Loss Of A Baby
Lord Jesus Christ,
I ask You to help (name) get through this tough time of miscarriage and the loss of a baby. I pray that she would feel you near as the God of comfort. Holy Spirit I ask that You would make Your presence known by placing hope in her heart for the future. I ask You, Father God, to restore to her the dreams in her heart. I ask You to encourage her that good times are coming again. Strengthen her, Lord, in this time of loss and give her grace to get through each day. I ask You take her from this dark place and let her feel your loving arms hugging her and comforting her as she grieves. I pray that (name) would feel You in her inmost being as You comfort her in this hard time. May the peace that surpasses all understanding guard her heart and mind (Philippians 4:7).
In Jesus’ Name I pray, Amen.
Prayer #4 – Uncovering Health Issues
I ask You to uncover any health issues to (name) so that her body can be healed fully and completely. Show her which voices to listen to regarding her health and where to focus her efforts for healing. I ask that Your peace would tangibly surround her as she navigates her next steps on her fertility journey. I ask You to open her womb again (if that is her wish). I pray that (name) would look to You and Your strength and seek Your face (1 Chronicles 16:11) in this season; that she would find comfort in You.
I pray this in Jesus’ name. Amen
Prayer #5 – Her Future Healthy Pregnancy
I lift up (name) to you and I ask You to open her womb for a healthy pregnancy soon. I ask You to answer the desires of her heart and give her a baby to grow her family. I decree and declare Psalm 113:9 over her life…You, Father God, settle the childless woman in her home as the happy mother of children. I also decree Exodus 23:25-26 over her life…there will be no sickness among you and none will miscarry or be barren in your land. We ask for the will of God to rule and reign in (name)’s life. I stand in agreement with her for total healing.
I pray this in Jesus’ name. Amen

The Power of Prayer
I want to encourage you to remember the power of prayer and to keep praying for your loved one who experienced a miscarriage. While your friend or family member may not be ready for visitors or to talk about the loss of a child, your prayers are powerful to help them get through this tough time.
Jesus is our ever-present help, especially in our time of need. If you can be the person who prays for another during this time of loss then you are the hands and feet of Jesus.
