My heart’s cry is to teach others what I have learned. This blog post will give you specific instruction on how to stop doubting your destiny. My battle for fertility has marked my heart. It has confirmed to me without a doubt that God plans our path. It’s up to us to partner with Him for the path to unfold but I firmly believe He plans it beforehand and it is ours for the taking.
The reason I believe this so strongly is because since I was 16 years old I knew in my heart that I would adopt a little girl. In order for the adoption to take place I would need to overcome my insecurity around men and get married because I wanted to have a husband when I adopted. I had an intense fear of men because I was sexually abused by men my entire childhood. My first mission was to overcome the abuse. I so wanted (and still want) to live God’s perfect plan for my life. And this desire drove me to keep fighting even when it was so difficult I didn’t think I could go on.
Now that I have my daughter in my arms I can see so clearly the good and perfect plan God had for me all along. And He has a perfect plan tailored specifically for you too!!
My Recent Instagram Post
I was on my Instagram account last night and wrote this post:
“My sweet daughter has brightened our lives more than we could have imagined!! She is 2 months old and she’s a joy beyond measure! When we run toward God’s promises He answers with REDEMPTION!

My most recent spiritual battle was fought for my daughter to get here but before that I fought with prayer and faith to meet and marry my husband. And prior to that I prayed, fought my insecurities, and pursued healing from a childhood of sexual abuse. Holy Spirit was my guide and my healing followed my choice to pray and believe I could be healed. God’s plan for me was never to be a girl full of pain from my past. Jesus REDEEMED me but I had to run after and receive my redemption from Him.
I want to encourage. you today to put your trust in Jesus and pray for your promises to manifest here on earth. Don’t let anything or anyone get in the way of your God-given destiny. Fight for your freedom in Him. Jesus will answer because He loves you beyond anything you can fathom. I pray His everlasting love will overshadow you and fill you to the brim. DM me if you need prayer.”
My Hurdles
If I could name the biggest hurdles in my fight for my God-given destiny it would be doubt and unbelief. I knew in my heart that I wanted to be married and have children but I doubted the possibility of it actually happening because of my circumstances. I was a New Orleans girl so hurt from a life of abuse that I gave myself over to drinking and drugs in high school and into my mid-20s. This lifestyle piled on the shame I had already accepted from the sexual abuse. It was a self-fulfilling prophecy and it sucked. I was in a constant downward spiral to which I thought there was no end. Until Jesus told me otherwise. You can read more about my story here.
Hearing From Jesus
I hated church because one of my abusers attended a non-denominational church regularly. His fraudulent christianity turned me off from going to any church. I basically thought all of the people were hypocrites and made a blanket decision to not join them. Then, I landed in church at age 26 and the Holy Spirit spoke clearly to me, “Do not judge Me based on man’s sin. I am still good and I love you.”
While I was not convinced I had truly heard from the Holy Spirit (this is the doubt I’m talking about) my curiosity was piqued and He had my attention. From there, Jesus kept loving on me and answering my small prayers which began to build my faith. Let’s look at Hebrews 12 in The Passion Translation.
“As for us, we have all of these great witnesses who encircle us like clouds. So we must let go of every wound that has pierced us and the sin we so easily fall into. Then we will be able to run life’s marathon race with passion and determination, for the path has been already marked out before us. We look away from the natural realm and we focus our attention and expectation onto Jesus who birthed faith within us and who leads us forward into faith’s perfection. His example is this: Because his heart was focused on the joy of knowing that you would be his, he endured the agony of the cross and conquered its humiliation, and now sits exalted at the right hand of the throne of God!”
Hebrews 12:1-2, The Passion Translation

How To Stop Doubting Your Destiny
- Let go of every wound that has pierced us
- Let go of sin we easily fall into (it’s probably not what you think)
- Start running life’s marathon race with passion
- Run your race with determination
- Remember that the path has already been marked out before us
- Look away from the natural realm and focus your attention and expectation onto Jesus who birthed faith within you
- Let Jesus lead you forward into faith’s perfection
- Focus on the joy of knowing you are His
- Conquer the humiliation and shame that try to hold you down
- Take your seat next to Jesus in the heavenly realm
Breaking Down Hebrews 12:1-2
Now let’s look at the footnotes in The Passion Translation for Hebrews 12:1-2. The author describes the wounds we are to let go of this way, to ” ‘get rid of every arrow tip in use.’ The implication is carrying an arrow tip inside, a wound that weighs us down and keeps us from running our race with freedom”. These are the ‘wounds that pierced us’ so we can expect that these wounds are the most hurtful things that have happened in our lives. The enemy’s purpose for these wounds is to keep us from running our race with freedom. But Jesus will show you the way out. Ask Jesus to reveal to you what He wants to heal in your heart.
The author also describes the sin we so easily fall into as, “Or ‘the sin that so cleverly entangles us.’ the Aramaic can be translated ‘the sin that is ready [and waiting] for us.’ If this is speaking of one sin, the context would point to the sin of unbelief and doubting God’s promises.”
This explanation literally leapt off the page and pierced my heart!!! It is not at all what I thought it would be! I thought He meant all the bad and shameful things I had done in my past but He means unbelief and doubt. And I now realize that these two sins, unbelief and doubt, were a constant hindrance in my walk with God.
Letting Go of Doubt and Unbelief
Doubt and unbelief were exactly what I had battled my entire faith journey leading up to birthing my daughter. I’m talking about a 20 year journey! Unbelief plagued me day and night and it led me to doubt God’s promises for my life. As I drew nearer to the manifestation of each of my promises from God the battles became more intense. The enemy tried to sway me to believe my battle was with shame and that I was not good enough or loved enough to receive the good things in life. But in reality the battle was whether or not I truly believed God’s promises for my life.
Once you believe God’s promises then He can teach you about His deep love for you; a love that knocks shame off its feet. I kept saying to myself, “God would not lie to me. I know I heard Him and it’s going to happen.” But there were many days even weeks where that thought was stolen from me and I wallowed in doubt and unbelief.
Becoming A Pioneer
The author then goes on to describe the marathon race we are to run as, “Or ‘obstacle course,’ The Greek word agona means agony or conflict. The assumption is this race will not be easy, but the proper path to run has been set before us.” You can be encouraged that even though the path is difficult it has already been planned for you.
The word of God says that Jesus birthed faith in you. Take hold of that faith and run with it. Remember that He did not birth that faith just to abandon you in walking it out. He is and will be with you every step of they way. In the footnotes the The Passion Translation the author refers to faith’s perfection as, “Or ‘He is the pioneer and perfecter of faith.’” A pioneer cuts a new path so you may be faced with being the first person in your family to take this road. Be encouraged because Jesus is making your faith perfect as you trust in Him which allows you to walk out your God-given destiny.
Focus On The Joy Of Knowing You Are His
How do we focus on the joy of knowing we are His? The author of The Passion Translation breaks it down in his footnotes so well. When describing how Jesus endured the cross the author says, “This was the joy of our salvation. He [Jesus] placed before his eyes the bliss we would forever share together with him, which empowered him to go through this agony. Instead of remaining in heaven’s glory with the Father and all the angels, he chose you as the joy set before him. He [Jesus] desires you to the point of laying down his life and being with God for all eternity to be with you. He pursued you, not seeing your weakness and failures but what you will be. Jesus can see what we will be in the end from the beginning. This was the joy that prompted him to become a man.” We can focus on this joy by knowing that He does not see our weaknesses and failures.
You can trust that Jesus sees the ending of your story and He is leading you there. It will most probably take some time to get there but Jesus is not not concerned with time because He knows the end and His timing is perfect. You are His joy and He wants to help you!!
The Opposite of Unbelief
The opposite of unbelief is faith. How do you overcome doubt? You believe in something! Let’s put our faith to work and believe Jesus is who He says He is. After all, Jeremiah prophesied that the thoughts God thinks toward us are to give us a future and a hope. The godly desires in your heart are your future and your hope. In chapter 29 of the bible book of Jeremiah he goes on to say that as you call upon Father God, Jesus, and Holy Spirit and as you pray He will listen to you. Jeremiah 29:13 gives the kingdom key to activating this passage in your life. And that is for us to search for Him with all our hearts.
11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. 12 Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. 13 And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.
Jeremiah 29:11-13, NKJV
Be Encouraged
I want to encourage you today to place the desires of your heart before Jesus. Pray and ask Him to fulfill each desire. Let Jesus show you the next step in your path. Be open to see Him in non-traditional ways. Search for him with all your heart and I guarantee you will find him. My prayer for you is to read this blog and be encouraged by the Holy Spirit to run your race and receive your God-given destiny.
