I’ve been reading Katie Souza’s book, “Healing The Wounded Soul,” and have received so much revelation about dunamis power. Let’s start with looking at the definition of the Greek word dunamis .
Greek Word: Dunamis means strength, power, ability; It is the:
- power for performing miracles
- moral power and excellence of soul
- power and influence which belong to riches and wealth
What is dunamis power?
Dunamis power is the resurrection power of Jesus flowing through you as a Christian. When you received Christ through salvation this power was released in you. So, as a believer you have dunamis power according to Romans 1:16.
16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.
Romans 1:16, NKJV, Emphasis mine
Dunamis power is, in essence, your spirit coming alive. Katie Souza explains it like this, “When you received Jesus as your Lord and Savior, the Holy Spirit came into you and brought dunamis with Him, which resurrected your dead spirit man unto eternal life. Right now if you’re born-again, you have a tankful of dunamis inside your spirit that never runs out! This means you have 24/7 access to power that can perform miracles in your life, give you power and influence that belong to riches and wealth, and cause you to have the ability to become excellent of soul.” Wow! This is powerful stuff…and, as a Christian it’s already in you. Let’s look at Ephesians 3:20:
20 Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, 21 to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.
Ephesians 3:20, (NKJV) Emphasis mine
The power referenced in this scripture is dunamis power. So, Jesus can do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think ACCORDING TO the power (dunamis) that works in you.
How do I get dunamis power working in me?
It starts with just knowing that you have it then activating it. The Bible tells us that God anointed Jesus with dunamis power in Acts 10:38 here:
…God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.
Acts 10:38, NKJV, Emphasis mine
Jesus used dunamis power to heal all who were oppressed by the devil. Katie Souza explains it like this, “You must believe you already possess the power to work miracles of every kind and then labor to enter into His rest by exercising it.” We exercise it by believing we have it through faith then commanding dunamis to enter all the areas of our lives through decrees.
Body, Soul & Spirit
We are a three-part being…body, soul, and spirit. The Holy Spirit entered your being when you received Jesus as your Lord and Savior. It’s the Holy Spirit who brings dunamis power into your life. All three parts of your being need to be “fed” in order to grow.
Think about this…you have been feeding your body with food and your soul (mind, will and emotions) with thoughts from the day you were born. Your spirit only started growing when you received Jesus as your Lord and Savior. So, your spirit man needs to catch up with your body and soul. Your spirit man needs to be fed. How do you feed your spirit man? The Word says:
17 So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
Romans 10:17, NKJV
Feeding Your Spirit Man
The way to feed your spirit man is to learn your identity in Christ. The Word says that you are a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17). We have to learn who we are in Christ, and when we do our spirit man will grow.
Start researching to find out what that means. Find out what scripture says about you. Next time we meet, I ask that everyone bring 3 scriptures that tell you about your identity.
Examples:
17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. (2 Corinthians 5:17)
9 But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; (2 Peter 2:9)
10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them. (Ephesians 2:10)
26 For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. 27 For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise. (Galatians 3:26-29)
